Expand your skills in painting and pigments with Adelaide oil painter Kate Kurucz in this special two-course program.

Learn how to transform pigments into oil paints and create custom colour mixes as Kate leads you through colour theory and an overview of pigment history in the first session. Then, use your custom mixes to create a radiant painting on copper panels in the second session. Copper has a significant presence in art history, and provides a beautiful, ultra-smooth surface with a glowing quality.

Across the program, Kurucz will share tips and techniques as well as an overview on how to bring traditional techniques to a contemporary practice. All materials and light refreshments are provided, as well as one-on-one feedback and focussed attention in this intimate course.

Please note before booking: This workshop takes place over two dates (1 & 8 June 2019, 12-4pm). The ticket price is for both sessions and individual dates are not available for sale.

ACE Open’s workshop program provides a unique opportunity to learn new skills and engage with leading contemporary artists in a creative, social and participatory environment. Designed to suit a range of skill levels and interests, these artist-led programs offer all audiences – from curious gallery-goers through to practicing artists – an opportunity to learn a range of creative techniques through hands-on, practical classes.

Inspired by what is around her, KATE KURUCZ looks for the strange combinations and connections between things. To create her paintings, she often builds a set as a reference, or places objects together in unusual pairings. She is moved by the potential of paint to create moments of intense emotion and fascinated by the way the ‘stuff’ of paint can be physically manipulated. Taking part in the Collections Project (Art Gallery of South Australia) in 2016 has been a highlight for Kurucz.
