Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Curator-in-Residence 

ACE Open is seeking an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander curator to take up a part-time role as Curator-in-Residence. The role is aimed at someone who would benefit working in a small to medium contemporary arts organisation, ideally at an early stage in their career or working independently

Working closely with the Artistic Director, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Curator-in-Residence will gain a broad general understanding of the creative and strategic activities of a small-to-medium contemporary art space, contribute curatorially to artistic programs, as well as provide project management support for a range of artistic programming activities.

Learning areas associated with the professional development component of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Curator-in-Residence position include: curatorial research; new art work commissions; exhibition project management; artist studios; arts writing and publishing; strategic planning; funding applications; engagement with national and international artists and curators.

ACE Open provides transformative contemporary art experiences for artists and audiences from its CBD art space in Adelaide, South Australia. As South Australia’s flagship contemporary art gallery, ACE Open presents a year-round program of free exhibitions by practicing South Australian, Australian and international artists. Its exhibitions and public programs are held at ACE Open, which is located in the Lion Arts Centre in the west end of the city. ACE Open also delivers an annual studio program for five South Australian artists, culminating in an end of year exhibition in the ACE Open gallery.

ACE Open has a strong demonstrated commitment to presenting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists in our artistic programs. ACE Open also seeks to provide professional development opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and arts workers for greater capacity building in the cultural sector. Through a new partnership with the City of Adelaide, ACE Open is able to provide this distinctive part time employment opportunity for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander curator.
